Chesapeake, Va., has awarded a contract to UGC Consulting, Engle-wood, Colo., for assistance in implementing a pilot GIS.
Smooth operating
Thomasville, Ala., has awarded a three-year, $1 million contract to Professional Services Group, Houston, to operate, maintain and manage the city’s wastewater plant and water distribution facilities, which include a 0.6 mgd primary waste-water treatment plant, seven pump stations, the wastewater collection system and the water distribution system.
Earth Tech, Long Beach, Calif., has been awarded a $5.2 million contract to provide complete operations and maintenance services to the International Boundary and Water Commission for the Nogales International Wastewater Treatment Plant in Nogales, Ariz. The contract is for one base year and four option years.
Getting there
The North Carolina Department of Transportation has selected Greiner, Raleigh, N.C., to prepare a supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement and preliminary design drawings for the four-lane Wilmington Bypass in New Hanover County.
The Northern Middlesex Council of Governments has selected North-west Engineering, Tidioute, Pa., to provide engineering consulting services for the extension of the historic trolley system in Lowell, Mass. The firm will conduct a feasibility study, engineering analysis and market analysis to determine the tourist and transit potential for an extended trolley line.
Kenny Construction, Chicago, has been named program manager for a $650 million expansion program at New Orleans Airport. Rust Environment and Infrastructure and Gaston Thatcher are also members of the joint venture project.
Roseville, Calif., has received delivery of three 30-foot Blue Bird Q-Buses for its city transit fleet. All three of the rear engine buses in-corporate Cummins 5.9-liter, 230-hp diesel engines and front and rear air suspension systems, as well as two 50,000 BTU heaters and Trans/Air air conditioning.
The Florida Department of Transportation has selected Parsons Brinckerhoff, Tampa, Fla., to provide construction engineering and inspection services for the rehabilitation of U.S. 41 from west of Goodlette Road to Airport Road in Naples, Fla.
Water, water everywhere
Richard P. Arber Associates, Denver, is completing several water supply, wastewater and storm sewer projects for Idaho Springs, Colo, including a new filtration gallery in Chicago Creek, improvements to the city’s raw water reservoir, evaluation of copper concentrations in waste-water sludge and development of a system master plan.
An engineering consulting team led by Montgomery Watson, Pasadena, Calif., and CH2M Hill, Denver, has begun preliminary design of the Folsom South Canal Connection project for the East Bay Municipal Utility District in Oakland, Calif. The project will allow the district to take delivery of American River water near Sacramento under a contract with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.
Camp Dresser & McKee, Cambridge, Mass., has been selected to perform a second assignment for the Water Environment Research Foundation. The project involves assessing innovative techniques for managing biosolids.
The New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission and Environmental Training Center has awarded a contract to INDUS Corp., Vienna, Va., for development of a performance analysis system for publicly owned treatment works facilities to complete compliance self-audits and source reduction analyses.
New Jersey-American Water has announced the acquisition of the Howell Township (Monmouth County) Municipal Water System.
The U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $1 million contract to Dames & Moore, Los Angeles, for the development of resource management plans for Potholes Reservoir and Banks Lake in central Washington. Each plan will contain an inventory of natural and land resources, including an analysis of their capability and suitability for future uses.
A new wastewater treatment plant has opened in the village of New Richmond, Ohio. The plant, which will serve Clermont and Hamilton counties, will use state-of-the-art equipment made by Aero-Mod, Canton, Ohio.

Capital Asset Research Corp., West Palm Beach, Fla., has been awarded a contract by the city of New York to co-service the city’s recent $215 million tax lien securitization placement program. The company will be responsible for servicing, managing and maintaining custody of documents and collecting the securitized tax lien certificates offered through the New York City Tax Lien 1996-1 trust.
HDR, Tampa and Orlando, has recently completed a roadkill study for the Florida Department of Transportation. Also known as a wildlife mortality study, the project’s purpose was to determine the extent of roadway mortality within a designated highway corridor and measure sections with the highest roadkill concentrations. Armadillos, southern leopard frogs and opossums were the most common victims.
Prison Health Services, New Castle, Del., has won a five-year renewal of its contract to provide health care services for the approximately 4,000 inmates of the correctional facilities in Alameda County, Calif. The contract is worth $53 million.
Richmond Renaissance, a public/private leadership organization in Richmond, Va., has commissioned LDR International, Columbia, Md., to assist in preparing a Tourism Development Strategy for the region, which includes the city and Henrico, Hanover and Chesterfield counties, an area that boasts more than 70 visitor attractions.
