Bid Notification System Wins “Best of the Web”
The Hudson Valley Municipal Purchasing Group (HVMPG) was presented with the “Best of the Web” Award for Local Governments by the New York State Forum for Information Resource Management (NYSFIRM) for the Regional Bid Notification and E-Procurement System.
NYSFIRM recognized the work done during the last year in the area of information resource management by New York state and local government organizations. Founding members of the HVMPG, honored at the forum’s annual meeting held in Albany, include the Counties of Rockland, Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, the City of New Rochelle, and the Town of Cortlandt.
HVMPG, founded by the Counties of Dutchess, Rockland, and Ulster, the City of New Rochelle, and the Town of Cortlandt, successfully implemented the HVMPG Regional Bid Notification and E-Procurement System in April 2002.
HVMPG has contributed to the economic development of the Hudson Valley by implementing a pro-business regional approach to local government procurement. Since the launch date over 3,400 companies have registered for the bid notification system and during that same time frame over 1,335 local governmentcontracting opportunities within the Hudson Valley have been posted to the system.
Hudson Valley business owners now visit a single Web site to search for and download bidding opportunities from 20 local government agencies within the Hudson Valley. The system provides instant access to bids, requests for proposals (RFPs), quotes, and amendments online. Businesses that subscribe to the optional automatic notification feature also have the ability to respond to requests for quotations (RFQs) electronically, eliminating the need for additional paperwork.
Of the 20 current members, only three had their contracting opportunities posted on the Internet prior to the start of the HVMPG system. This means local businesses now have access to contracting opportunities that were not easily accessible prior to implementation.
By providing local businesses with a single point of access to local government contracting opportunities, the HVMPG system assists local business in winning local government contracts.
The HVMPG system is the largest regional bid notification system in the United States, posting the largest number of contracting opportunities and registering the most businesses.
Any municipality or political sub-division in Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties can use the HVMPG system. All municipalities and political subdivisions have been encouraged to join.
Regional planning or cooperation remains a hot topic for local government within New York State, and the HVMPG Regional Bid Notification System is a proven success.
