Florida “Stealth ” Cars Target Aggressive Drivers
An anonymous source donated 18 high-performance, unmarked Mercury Marauder vehicles to the Florida Highway Patrol in order to target aggressive drivers, or drivers who commit two or more driving violations at the same time.
The vehicles are completely unmarked, possess hidden police lights, use regular-issue license plates and tinted windows, and are equipped with high-definition digital video and an infrared camera to capture violations and provide more evidence against offenders.
In the 12 months before June 30, almost 8,800 citations were issued throughout Florida for aggressive driving with more than 700 citations for aggressive driving issued during a recent pilot project using the Marauders in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
