Greenway Seeks Consultants for Riverfront Master Plan
The Great Rivers Greenway District ( http://www.govinfo.bz/4589-262), the public organization leading the development of a region-wide system of interconnected greenways, parks, and trails known as The River Ring, has issued a Request for Qualifications for the development of a Master Plan for the St. Louis Riverfront. The goal of the project is to redevelop the downtown riverfront into a nationally recognized destination.
The RFQ has been distributed nationwide to professionals in planning, architecture, urban design, and engineering.
As the lead agency for the St. Louis Riverfront project, the Greenway District will fund the plan, although a specific dollar amount is not specified in the RFQ. Partners for the project also include the City of St. Louis, the National Park Service Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (Gateway Arch), Downtown Now!, and Metro.
We are very excited that the Greenway District is committing resources to make the Citys riverfront come alive. Because of the flood stage, developing the riverfront is going to be an engineering challenge. But, it is time to get the best minds together to make the riverfront into a true destination attraction, said St. Louis Mayor Francis G. Slay.
