Non-Profits E-Commerce Services to Save Mississippi Purchasing Dollars, Create Jobs
Mississippis landing of the National Association of Government Vending (NAGV) as a new corporate citizen will pay big dividends for taxpayers.
Not only will NAGV create what are expected to be hundreds of jobs for Mississippians, but it will also help the state and local jurisdictions stretch precious tax revenues much further.
NAGV is a non-profit entity that uses electronic commerce via the Internet to reduce the cost of purchasing for government and nonprofits, including churches.
We have developed a business model that not only saves government and nonprofits fifteen percent or more on every purchasing dollar, says Jeffery Schoner, NAGV president. We are able to deliver this service to all participating parties for free.
NAGVs web-based Interchange presents a way to reduce the cost of government by taking advantage of a fully electronic transaction system. NAGV Interchange also allows for access to combine purchasing among multiple jurisdictions. According to the U.S.
Office of Management and Budget, electronic and aggregate purchasing alone will generate annual savings to jurisdictions of 15 percent or more.
NAGVs web-based purchasing system based here in Mississippi, would allow for increased accountability and reduction in administrative and purchasing cost for government, says Governor Haley Barbour. Having NAGV as a corporate citizen, Mississippi can get the most from technology to benefit the citizens they serve and the vendors with whom they do business.
The cities of Laurel and Ellisville, Jones County, and the Economic Development Authority of Jones County are the first jurisdictions to use the NAGV Interchange. Their vendor purchasing contracts, as well as those of the State of Mississippi, are being loaded into the NAGV purchasing platform.
NAGV, a Mississippi-based 501-C6 nonprofit organization, generates its revenue through optional, association memberships sold to vendors and also through agreements with association marketing partners. Participating governments or their vendors are not charged for using NAGVs purchasing platform nor does it derive any revenue from transactions on the NAGV Interchange.
NAGV will leverage the buying power of its vendor members to create a fund administered by the NAGV Foundation, a separate 501-C3, to support the needs of government and community programs. No funds are derived from taxpayer dollars and 100 percent of all monies coming into the Foundation are used to support a purchasing grant program. Participants have the opportunity to make applications for these purchasing grants from the NAGV Foundation. These and community enhancement grants will be available to entities that participate in the NAGV Interchange.
Headquartered in Ellisville, MS, NAGV employs 17 area residents. Over the next five years, employment is expected to reach 300 with an average non-managerial salary of $40,000 per job.
