More Police Agencies Move To Electronic Tickets
In order to improve accuracy and save time, the Texas-based Oak Ridge North Police Department is implementing an electronic ticketing system that allows officers to quickly input citation data with a swipe of a driver’s license and print a receipt for the driver. Later, officers can easily download the information to police and court databases to eliminate need for court clerks to re-enter the information.
Similarly, the Shenandoah Police Department is using hand-held devices with a computerized entry system for traffic tickets, and the Montgomery Police are implementing laptops into patrol cars with the intention of eventually using electronic ticketing.
The only local opposition to the system is from Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Ike Fluellen, who believes officers who spend more time in their patrol car with the electronic ticket system could miss hidden contraband or weapons in the vehicles of offenders.
