Command Of The Road
The Florida-based Pembroke Pines Police Department’s new mobile command center, housed in a Freightliner truck and financed by the Fort Lauderdale law enforcement trust fund, allows officers to easily move the center in order to coordinate directly from the scene of an emergency.
The center contains areas for dispatch, conferences, communications, and surveillance, and officers will have access to the conveniences of home as well as shades for privacy and protection from the sun.
Local officers plan to use the mobile command center in response to hostage situations, missing children, and emergencies such as terrorist attacks and hurricanes.
Previously, the department used a recreational vehicle as a mobile command center but the new $324,000 vehicle has significantly improved technology and capabilities.
