Colorado Law Agencies To Use Coplink In Denver Metro Area
Law enforcement agencies in the northwest Denver metro area will soon gain a powerful new partner in fighting crime. Knowledge Computing Corporation reports that its COPLINK solution will support the new Jefferson County Law Enforcement Sharing System. The technology shares information across jurisdictions and generates investigative leads that help solve and thwart crime.
Jefferson County Sheriff Ted Mink said, “The Jefferson County Law Enforcement Sharing System will substantially increase the effectiveness of our collaborative law enforcement effort by rapidly generating qualified investigative leads, fostering greater information sharing across jurisdictions, and allowing us to better utilize resources throughout our communities to address illegal activity.”
“Arvada and neighboring jurisdictions have a strong track record of information sharing, but it can take days or weeks to assemble and analyze information from multiple jurisdictions critical to cracking complex cases,” said Chief Ron Sloan of the Arvada Police Department. “COPLINK provides and analyzes information across participating jurisdictions in seconds based on known facts in an investigation which will significantly reduce the time it takes our officers to identify suspected criminals and their associates and apprehend violent and repeat offenders.”
COPLINK provides analysis and decision support for rapidly identifying criminal suspects, relationships, and crime patterns by allowing vast quantities of structured and seemingly unrelated data, currently housed in various incompatible databases and records management systems, to be securely organized, consolidated and rapidly analyzed over a highly secure intranet-based platform.
One search using known or partial facts from an ongoing investigation can produce qualified leads that would otherwise be unapparent in seconds, — a process that often took days or weeks to accomplish. COPLINK builds ‘institutional memory,’ reduces knowledge gaps, and prevents criminals from falling through the cracks.
The first phase of the project will integrate data from the police agency records management systems for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s department and the cities of Arvada, Lakewood, and Westminster.
Phase II will expand the coverage to include the cities of Broomfield, Golden, and Wheat Ridge. Each agency will control what data is shared, with whom and when. In addition, agency data will continue to reside and be updated at its existing source.
