Technology To Track The Missing
Connecticut police are using a new tracking technology that allows them to alert thousands of residents to a reported missing child in their area. The system called, A Child is Missing, can alert up to 1,000 residents each minute.
A Child is Missing has helped officers recover 123 children in the time span since its implementation in 1997. A recent seminar focusing on the program was attended by more than 50 police officers from across the state. Police Chief Kevin Hale told attendees that the technology could also help alert the community to suspects on the run, while Mayor Jim Della Volpe said it had applications for locating missing elderly people as well.
State Attorney General Richard Blumenthal added that the system is especially helpful in the first few hours after a person is reported missing.
