Police Improve Missing-Persons System
Nonprofit organization A Child Is Missing will provide Connecticut’s New Britain Police department the ability to place up to 1,000 phone calls in a targeted area within the span of 60 seconds in order to alert residents of a missing person.
The free system provides residents with the missing person’s name, description, home address, and last known location. New Britain Sgt. Tracy Baden believes the system will get much use with three missing toddler reports occurring over the past 60 days.
Connecticut’s Plainville Police Association and the Plainville Police Department are launching a local version of the AMBER Alert system. Parents in the community are urged to participate in the program by providing photos, fingerprints, hair samples, and other valuable information to help investigators in the event of a kidnapping or disappearance. Plainville Capt. Peter Costanzo asserts that “When a child first goes missing, minutes count.”
