Greenwich, Conn.-based United Rentals has purchased the trench safety rentals and sales assets of Phoenix-based Sandvick Equipment and Supply.

Los Angeles-based AECOM, a design and professional technical services company, has merged with San Francisco-based EDAW, an urban planning and design, landscape, architecture, economics, and cultural and environmental services firm. EDAW will operate as an AECOM company under the EDAW name.

Woburn, Mass.-based Nova Analytics has acquired ADS, a subsidiary of Stamford, Conn.-based Axel Johnson. ADS manufactures and distributes flow measurement equipment and software, and Nova Analytics supplies laboratory, field and online instrumentation.

Morristown, N.J.-based Edwards and Kelcey, an engineering, design and construction management firm, has acquired Portland, Maine-based Aquarion Engineering Services, a civil and environmental firm that provides planning and design solutions for municipal, civil and environmental engineering projects.

Exton, Pa.-based Bentley Systems has acquired the Research Engineers International business, which offers structural engineering analysis software from Yorba Linda, Calif.-based netGuru.

Williamson County, Tenn., has contracted with Portage, Mich.-based Manatron to provide the company’s Computer Aided Mass Appraisal software.

Thirteen cities and counties, including the Utah Transportation Authority, have contracted with Salt Lake City-based AlphaCorp to provide document and agenda management software.

The Maryland Aviation Administration has contracted with Schaumburg, Ill.-based Motorola to provide a $6.9 million Mission Critical communications system for the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport to improve coordination between the airport and neighboring jurisdictions.

Fort Worth, Texas, has contracted with Manhattan, Kan.-based CivicPlus to perform graphic design services for a new city Web site. Columbia, Ill., has contracted with the company to design, develop, maintain and host the city’s Web site and provide a content management system.

Solano County, Calif., has contracted with Chantilly, Va.-based Apptis and Wallingford, Conn.-based Smartlink Radio Networks to design and deliver an interoperable radio system platform that will allow public safety agencies to communicate across radio frequencies.

And the winner is…

St. Louis-based Horner & Shifrin has received a merit award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois for its study of solutions to eliminate flooding on Interstate 55, south of Springfield, for the Illinois Department of Transportation, Region 6.

Portsmouth, N.H., has received the second runner-up award from the New Hampshire Waste Pollution Control Association in the 2005 Plant of the Year award competition for its Peirce Island Facility.

South Puget Sound Community College has received the Environmental Excellence Award from the state of Washington for reusing the last of its portable buildings and keeping demolition debris out of landfills. The college sold the buildings to Sunrise Beach School for $250.

Gwinnett County, Ga., has been named an “entrepreneur-friendly community” by the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Entrepreneur and Small Business Office.

Fountain Valley, Calif.-based Carollo Engineers has been named a 2005 Grand Award Winner by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Arizona for its design of Yuma’s Desert Dunes Water Reclamation Facility.

Barrington, Ill., has contracted with Carol Stream, Ill.-based Williams Development to direct construction for a multi-featured, 55-acre park. The design was developed in consultation with the village and the Barrington Park District. Improvements include a pavilion, picnic shelters, a gazebo and an outdoor ampitheater.

Jacksonville, Fla., has contracted with Orlando, Fla.-based MSCW to provide planning and urban design services for the revitalization of the New Kings corridor in the northwest part of the city. Throughout the project, the firm will organize and facilitate public meetings.

The Waukegan, Ill., Port District has contracted with Madison, Wis.-based JJR to provide engineering and construction management services for the Waukegan Harbor rehabilitation project. The company will replace the fixed dock marina with a floating dock system. Of 1,000 slips, 750 will be replaced within three years.

The Missouri Division of Facilities Management has contracted with St. Louis-based Richardson Engineering Group to design modifications to the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and fire alarm systems at the Missouri Sexual Offender Treatment Center in Farmington, Mo.
