Ronald Rice by a hefty margin, according to The New York Times. With 166 of 168 districts reporting, Booker led Rice 32,134 votes to 10,337. Four years ago Booker ran unsuccessfully against then incumbent Mayor Sharpe James. The city has had only two mayors since 1970, James and his predecessor Kenneth Gibson, and voters said they were ready for a change. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/10/nyregion/10newark.html
