Cook County, Ill., Commissioner John Daley says he’s not going to try to become the commission’s interim president because he feels his candidacy would be divisive. Daley, brother of Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, said race also has become a factor in the selection of a temporary replacement for current Board President John Stroger who will retire on July 31, according to the Chicago Tribune. He based that on a statement from Democratic state Sen. Rickey Hendon who had said that Daley might seek to use the interim position as leverage in a November election for the board presidency, a position that Democratic leaders would like to see filled by an African-American. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/
