Bonds for Louisville arena in doubt

The governor of Kentucky says a construction agreement approved by the Louisville Metro Council could prevent the state from issuing $75 million in bonds to help finance a $450 million arena in the city. Without the state’s money, the arena can’t be built, according to The Courier-Journal. Gov. Ernie Fletcher said the agreement, which allows unions to participate in construction deals, violates the state’s budget bill because it would lead to unequal treatment of companies bidding for the project. Supporters of the agreement say it would only set terms and conditions for union and non-union workers on the job.
