The Kihei Community Association in Maui, Hawaii, has received a long list of recommendations on affordable housing from Washington-based think tank Urban Land Institute. The recommendations included enacting an ordinance to require new developments to designate 30 percent of their units as affordable housing and for the city to hire more people to handle a backlog of housing projects, according to The Maui News. The city council has begun working on the first recommendation.
