Army relocation plans annoy Virginia officials

Fairfax County, Va., officials say they are “dumbfounded” by the U.S. Army’s decision to apparently ignore the officials’ suggestions on relocating 22,000 military and civilian workers to Fort Belvoir in the county. Army consultants for the Base Realignment and Closure program chose to put most of the new workers at the Engineer Proving Grounds near the fort, saying the location has several advantages, according to the Washington Post. County officials say it will lead to traffic congestion because the area has been scarcely used until now.
