The controversy over one proposed housing development in Horry County, S.C., has led to a movement to make the county prepare for future growth. A Mount Vernon store owner and a firefighter are partners in the 75-unit development they say will be a good addition to the community because it will include half-acre lots and six acres of green space, according to The Sun News. Other residents say it could overtax the local school system, and some groups are urging the county to adopt an Adequate Facilities Ordinance that would stop rezoning for large projects if there aren’t enough public services to support them.
