Wichita, Kan., must hurry to approve grant for tennis courts
A federal grant intended for the construction of a downtown recreation center in Wichita, Kan., may be used to build new tennis courts
A federal grant intended for the construction of a downtown recreation center in Wichita, Kan., may be used to build new tennis courts and to purchase an inflatable dome to go over them, but city officials will have to overcome resistance before the grant expires in two months. Wichita Mayor Carlos Mayans says the inflatable dome could be ugly and might cost up to $36,000 a year to heat and cool, according to The Wichita Eagle. Supporters of the plan say the dome and new courts could be an affordable opportunity to provide recreation for inner-city youth.
