The two candidates for governor of Maryland are trying to outdo each other in showing support for the Purple Line, a proposed rail or bus line between two of Washington’s biggest suburbs. Residents of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties have demanded relief from traffic congestion, and both Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley and incumbent Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich, Jr., are touting the Purple Line as the answer, according to the Washington Post. However, some area residents oppose the line, saying it will destroy a local nature trail.
