More than one-third of the population of the New York metropolitan area had at least a bachelor’s degree in 2005. Recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that highly educated people over 25 are beginning to replace dropouts, bringing hope that crime rates and demand for social services will go down, according to The New York Times. However, some sociologists are worried that the trend indicates that low-income residents are being forced out of the city.
