Bush Hog Flex Wings (with related video)
Bush Hog, based in Selma, Ala., provides the product, Bush Hog Flex Wings, and no, this isn’t military or Star Wars gear. It’s a highly efficient roadside and grounds mower for clearing heavier grass and brush. Available in cutting widths from 12 to 20 feet, Bush Hog Flex Wings are suited for clearing heavily overgrown roadsides and other land-clearing applications. Wings float independently over uneven terrain for a uniform cutting appearance. The cutter is offered in a variety of models that meet project needs. The cutter matches up with many tractor sizes and brands.
Bush Hog Flex Wings offer performance, durability and longevity. Models are available in sizes that range from those suitable for small park applications to clearing overgrown roadsides. There is a model to match every need and every tractor, so long as a minimum of 60 horsepower are available from the tractor.
The cutter consists of a center unit with two variable position wings that can be adjusted to angles from 87 degrees up to 22 degrees down. The wing operating angles and machine cutting height are independently controlled using hydraulic cylinders, while a self-leveling linkage keeps the cutters level at all cutting heights. Power from the tractor PTO is split at the power divider gearbox and supplied to each of the blade gearboxes. Each blade gearbox has two free-swinging uplift blades that are designed to cut anything from grass to light brush. The free-swinging nature of the blades reduces the shock of impact if an obstruction is encountered, and slip clutches are installed on each gearbox for additional protection. Front and rear discharge shields are included as standard equipment.
The cutters feature a self-leveling hitch, an easy-to-clean double deck, a six-year gearbox limited warranty, and distribution baffles. Features that are exclusive to the manufacturer are three equal cutting circles for maximum distribution and driveline safety retaining rings. The deck is made of 11-gauge steel on the top, and 10-gauge steel on the bottom for strength, with 7-gauge strongbacks and ¼ -inch sidebands. Each axle arm features an independent spring cushion. The axle turn buckles are heavy-duty for longevity and strength, and greasable axle pivot points enhance ease of maintenance. Wheel hubs and axle spindles are all heavy duty.
