Training program develops skills of government marketers
Laurel, Md.-based Capitol College has partnered with the Government Market Master (GMM) organization and will begin offering the GMM program’s non-credit courses on campus, beginning June 2012. The GMM program provides government-marketing professionals with training that addresses best practices, processes and methodologies for developing and sustaining business relationships with the federal government.
To receive a Government Market Master Certificate, individuals must fulfill course requirements in business management, sales, marketing, business development and social media. Individual track certifications are offered for each of the five areas. The certifications require 40 hours of class/webinar time, so depending on when the classes are offered, an individual can earn a GMM certificate in two months.
The program is customized for executives, managers and professionals who want to transition their business-to-business approach to a business-to-government approach. “I’m very pleased to partner with GMM to deliver programming specifically designed to benefit the federal contractor community,” said Ken Crockett, director of Capitol College’s Critical Infrastructures and Cyber Protection Center. “I believe GMM programming will help increase the volume of defense contractors that participate in the federal marketplace, thereby increasing competition within the contracting community. This will lead to improved innovation and better products and services for the U.S. government to consider, thereby enhancing homeland security.”
The GMM program was co-developed by Mark Amtower of Amtower & Company, author of the “Government Marketing Best Practices” and “Selling to the Government” books. Amtower & Company has been offering professional education for the government contracting community since 1991. Amtower serves as co-director of the GMM program.
Federal civilian and defense employees that are leaving public service and looking for a second career should consider earning a GMM certificate, Amtower told Govpro. “The GMM certification program can help leverage those years of public service into that second career as a government contractor in the areas addressed by the program. Many government-contracting firms seek professionals who have recently left public service, but often these people are not fully prepared to look at the government from ‘the other side.’ The Government Market Master program can make that transition seamless,” said Amtower. He added that the certification program could help prepare individuals to land federal business in 2012.
