PTI invites entries for Web 2.0 awards
State and local governments that are using civic/social networking tools to increase citizen engagement and efficiency are invited to enter the Public Technology Institute’s (PTI) Web 2.0 State & Local Government Awards & Recognition Program. Awards will be presented for best practices in the use of Web 2.0 and for exceptional accomplishment in citizen engagement, innovative technology, accountability, mobile applications, economic development, public safety and education. Entries are due June 15, 2012.
Initiated with funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, PTI’s Web 2.0 State & Local Government Awards & Recognition Program builds on research and outreach that PTI conducted in its Citizen-Engaged Communities Designation program. Winners will receive an award and use of the Web 2.0 Government Achievement logo. They will be featured in a virtual “Gallery of Excellence” for citizen engagement, showcased at national and regional conferences, provided opportunities to present their accomplishments in webinars and discussions, and spotlighted by PTI.
Web 2.0 tools are interactive, social, dynamic, user-centered, collaborative and interoperable. Some examples of Web 2.0 tools are social networks, wikis, mashups, RSS feeds, listserves, alerts, blogs and micro blogs, mapping, dynamic input and service requests, photo sharing, webcasts and webcams, video sharing, podcasts and vodcasts, virtual worlds, games and search engine utilities.
The awards program is open to all state and local governments. To apply, complete the application (a Microsoft Word file), and submit it to Susan Cable, [email protected], by June 15, 2012. Winners will be announced in July 2012.
