Jailhouse Romeo
Who says criminals don’t have a sense of romance? Police in San Antonio say one Romeo picked the perfect time to propose to his Juliet — after they both were arrested.
Police say the man’s girlfriend went into a Family Dollar Store while he waited in the car, according to UPI. Store managers say the woman was shoplifting. They went to stop her as she was trying to leave through a broken door that wouldn’t move.
That’s when Romeo sprang into action. Seeing his girlfriend trapped, he rushed into the store to rescue her.
“He sees she’s in trouble so he goes on in the store to help her escape,” a police spokesman told reporters. As the pair left the store, police say the man told the managers he would come back to get them.
The man and his girlfriend were arrested a short time later and charged with aggravated robbery. He denied that they were trying to rob the store and said he only did what any self-respecting Romeo would do. “They tried to hurt my girlfriend,” he told television station KSAT as he was being led off in handcuffs.
Then Romeo had an inspired idea. Immediately after he and his girlfriend were arrested, he popped the question. And Juliet accepted.
There are no details yet about the pending wedding. It’s a good bet, though, that the bride won’t be registered at Family Dollar.
