Evidence tampering
Police in Genesee County, N.Y., say an enterprising criminal tried an unusual way to hide his crime — by eating the evidence. Officials say the man tried to swallow a handful of counterfeit $50 bills while he was being detained, according to The Buffalo News.
It all started over the Labor Day weekend at Darien Lake Theme Park in Buffalo. The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said a 35-year-old man paid for an order of French fries with a $50 bill.
The vendor was suspicious ($50 for fries?) and called security. Turns out the bill was counterfeit.
As the man was being transported in a security vehicle, he tried to swallow five other counterfeit bills, according to the newspaper. Security officials managed to retrieve – no word on how – the bills before they were destroyed.
The man was arrested. His charges, among other things, include tampering with evidence. Now, thanks to some quick-thinking and light-fingered security guards, he’s likely to face that evidence, slightly used, at trial.
