Louisville named top tech government
Louisville Metro Government is getting high marks for its use of technology. The Kentucky city received two national honors this year from the Center for Digital Government, according to the Courier-Journal.
The center’s 2012 Digital Cities survey named Louisville as the top city in using technology to communicate with citizens. The city’s website also received top honors in a separate survey by the center.
The Digital Cities survey ranked Louisville ahead of cities such as Boston, Seattle and Sacramento. The center cited Louisville’s new data tracking program and the city’s “aggressive development of mobile apps that help citizens connect with city government and for taking a comprehensive, government-wide approach to using technology.”
The Digital Cities Survey looks at how city governments use technology in areas such as shared services, mobile applications and e-government. Hundreds of cities participated in the 2012 survey.
This is the survey’s 12th year. Following Louisville, other cities with a population of more than 250,000 among the top five included Riverside, Calif.; Boston; Seattle; and Aurora, Colo.
This year, Louisville also earned the top ranking in the Best of the Web awards from the digital government center. It marks only the second time one city has taken first in both surveys in the same year.
