City cultural awards deadline is Jan. 25
Applications are now being accepted for the 2013 City Cultural Diversity Awards through the National League of Cities (NLC). The awards recognize municipal programs that improve and promote cultural diversity through a collaborative process with city officials, community leaders and residents.
The diversity awards program was developed by the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials, an NLC constituency group. The program is designed to “encourage citizen involvement in local government-sponsored activities and enhance the appreciation of cultural diversity as a way of life in cities and towns,” according to NLC.
Winners are selected in each of four population categories: under 25,000; 25,001-100,000; 100,001-400,000; and over 400,001. Awards applications must focus on one municipal program that is an ongoing and recognized effort.
The deadline for submission is Jan. 25. Applications are available online. Award winners will be notified at the end of February. Awards will be presented March 11 at the NLC Congressional City Conference Celebrate Diversity Breakfast.
Diversity award winners from 2012 included Brooklyn Park, Minn.; Dubuque, Iowa; Irvine, Calif.; Arlington County, Va.; and Phoenix, Ariz.
