Snowfighters head to Cincinnati for 2014 Snow Conference

Snowfighters across North America are set to convene in Cincinnati for the American Public Works Association (APWA) 2014 North American Snow Conference, known as “The Show for Snow.” The meeting takes place from May 4-7, 2014 at the Duke Energy Convention Center. More than 1,500 snow and ice management professionals are expected to attend, representing transportation departments from cities and townships, county and rural streets divisions, and state and provincial departments from across the U.S. and Canada.

The event covers many topics in snow and ice management. The conference showcases high-tech snow and ice solutions in an exhibit hall of 174 vendors. Attendees can view products and services focused on snow and ice removal, winter road maintenance, and streets and fleet operations.

A variety of educational sessions will provide winter maintenance and weather presentations, tracks for emergency management and fleet, as well as sessions about sustainability in winter operations. The educational sessions, workshops, and discussions are scheduled throughout the conference.

Several technical tours are on tap, including:
–Miami Township Snow Fighting Facilities: This tour will walk through the facilities’ 6,500-ton salt dome, brine-making and storage system, and brine-additive storage locations.

–CVG Airport Winter and Environmental Operations: This technical tour will highlight the snow removal and environmental operations at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, showcasing the Airport’s ability to clear a runway from snow and ice in only 20 minutes.

–The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden: Snowfighters will learn about the sustainability journey of the “Greenest Zoo in America,” committed to sustainability in all facets of zoo operations.
