Brief: Knight Cities Challenge accepting applications
What's your best idea to make cities more successful? – that's the question on the hearts and minds of the Knight Foundation, which is launching its inaugural Knight Cities Challenges, which seeks new ideas to make the 26 communities where Knight invests more vibrant places to live and work.
The best ideas might improve cities, but they might also line pockets, to the tune of $5 million. Winners will receive a share of $5 million and become part of a network of civic innovators working to improve cities.
The challenge has two rules:
1) Submissions may come from anywhere, but the project must take place in or benefit one or more of 26 Knight communities.
2) The idea should focus on one or more of three key drivers of city success: (1) Talent: ideas that help cities attract and keep the best and brightest; (2) Opportunity: ideas that create economic prospects and break down divides; (3) Engagement: ideas that spur connection and civic involvement.
Applications will be accepted through Nov. 14. Apply at knightcities.org.
