Up-to-date source of heavy equipment intelligence now available
The new EquipmentWatch INDEX has been released, and it includes a quick look at price, volume and age trends observed during September 2014.
Just a reminder, both Truck and Agricultural Equipment have recently been added to the EquipmentWatch INDEX. These additions make the INDEX the only resource tracking all three major heavy equipment verticals. 
The monthly INDEX is an information tool that fleet professionals use to track critical heavy equipment benchmarks. When they use the INDEX, fleet professionals can make knowledgeable heavy equipment decisions around price, market share and equipment age metrics.

The latest monthly INDEX shows the following marketplace activity over the past 30 days for construction equipment: A total of 4,826 equipment units changed hands at auction (public), while a total of 362,296 equipment units were transacted in the resale (private) marketplace. The latest INDEX also has data on lift truck and agricultural equipment market activity.
The latest INDEX report also provides age benchmarks for various kinds of equipment by category and manufacturer.
Here are highlights from the current INDEX that EquipmentWatch Industry Analyst Andrew Hoss observed over the past month:
Construction
• Prices decreased in the majority of the country with the notable exception of several Southeastern states, including an 8.2% gain in NC.
• While prices went down, volume went up. The Midwest showed particularly substantial gains, with Wisconsin leading the pack.
• After last month’s slight increases in age across the majority of equipment types, this month sees average age of resale equipment getting younger, with 4-Wd Articulated Wheel Loaders dropping 1.1 years.
Lift Trucks
• The Northeastern part of the USA showed the biggest decline in prices.
• The number of lift trucks entering the market increased by 14.2%.
• Montana’s average selling price increase by $10,000 due to plenty of high-end Telescopic Boom Rough Terrain Lift trucks on the market.
Agricultural Equipment
• Nationwide, volume increased 5% compared to August.
• Prices fell everywhere except the Southwest, where average asking prices increased by 0.7%.
• The average age of equipment on the resale market in September decreased by 2 months.
On-Highway Truck
• Overall, private market units didn’t see much change, but there was high volatility within states.
• Auction volume nearly doubled for trucks in September.
• Freightliner, International, and Kenworth all saw increases in the average age for both resale and auction trucks.
