Post University MPA blends graduate-level public administration and business courses (with related video)

The MPA degree program at Waterbury, Conn.-based Post University prepares its graduates to advance in the public sector, nonprofits and business startups. The program’s faculty consists of experienced professionals who bring their practical knowledge to the classroom.

Students in the program can earn their degrees completely online in an accelerated program format. The program’s courses enable students to discover how local, regional, national, and global trends may affect and shape government agencies, public sector programs and nonprofit organizations.

Cynthia Anger, academic program manager for the MPA program, shares some of the features of the Post MPA with GPN.

GPN:  Can your school’s MPA degree offer new opportunities to our readers?

Cynthia Anger: While many other online MPA programs focus almost exclusively on the public sector, Post University has integrated its MBA with its MPA degree program, to create a valuable, innovative academic experience that enhances a student’s executive administration skills. This approach offers new opportunities for students to make a real difference in their organizations while pursuing their degree. By blending graduate-level public administration and business courses, Post University’s MPA curriculum develops management, organizational, and financial skills that help students advance in the non-profit sector. The decision-making strategies and planning techniques they’ll learn offer new opportunities to lead and manage change within established public sector organizations and startups alike.

GPN: What makes your MPA program different?

CA: All of Post University’s courses are taught by scholar-practitioners with at least 10 years of work experience in their chosen fields. When students enter our program, they can be assured that their instructors are both academically qualified and will bring practical, real world experience into the classroom. As a result, students develop practical skillsets to help them achieve real results in tackling some of society’s most intractable problems.

In addition, we understand that our students come to us with their own professional experiences. Our program encourages students to engage with and learn from each other through online discussions facilitated by their course instructor.

Furthermore, we recognize that our students are busy professionals. Our classes are offered completely on online, in eight-week modules. Students can obtain their degree in as few as two years.

GPN: Is 2016 a great time to earn an MPA for government administrators?

CA: The time to earn an MPA has never been better. As government continues to downsize, and the nonprofit sector struggles to make ends meet, competition for new positions and advancement within organizations will require individuals to have the superior academic credentials and practical skills that Post University’s MPA program provides to our students.

GPN: Do you have any advice for our audience of government administrators on choosing an MPA program?

CA: At its core, public administration is a service profession. Working as a public administrator in government and/or nonprofit organizations provides rewarding opportunities to perform a public service by applying practical skills and theoretical knowledge to policy review, revision and implementation.

My advice is to find an MPA program that not only equips students with the skills they need to succeed, but also surrounds them with other working professionals who are equally committed to public service.
