Federal agencies are recruiting the next generation (with related video)
GPN checked in with Steven Rothberg, president and founder of CollegeRecruiter.com, to find out about federal hiring and workforce trends. The site’s interactive media solutions connect students and grads to recruiters and great careers, Rothberg tells GPN.
He says each year his Minneapolis-based site helps about two million students and recent graduates of one-, two-, and four-year colleges and universities and graduate schools find jobs. His firm has a dozen employees plus contractors across the country. Its clients are primarily federal government agencies and Fortune 1,000 firms that advertise their jobs to the CollegeRecruiter.com audience.
GPN asked Rothberg if federal recruiters are focused on hiring in any specific job categories or job titles. He tells GPN: “Anything related to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) is drawing a good amount of interest among federal hiring managers.” He adds, “They also seem to have a harder time hiring administrative and clerical personnel than most comparably sized corporations.” Below are Rothberg’s views.
Federal, state and local government agencies are increasing their outreach efforts to students and recent graduates of one-, two-, and four-year colleges and universities as more and more long-time employees retire.
One of the most economical ways of reaching millennial job seekers is through on-line advertising, including job postings, targeted e-mail campaigns, and targeted banner advertising. These contracts are often purchased on an annual basis. A number of our clients purchase in the summer or September so that we put their recruitment advertising purchases into service prior to the end of the fiscal year.
As the federal fiscal year draws to a close on Sept. 30, federal contracting officers have more tasks to complete and less and less time to complete those tasks. And so their ability to buy off of our GSA schedule has also helped as that makes it far easier for the agency to gather the necessary information, get approvals, purchase, and implement prior to October first.
CollegeRecruiter.com’s GSA Contract number is GS-02F-0239X. The firm is listed in this GSA schedule: Human Resources and Equal Opportunity (EEO) Service. It is certified by the U.S. Small Business Administration as a woman-owned, small business.
