Service-member families rely on military-grade laundry machines
Fort Hood, the largest active-duty armored post in the U.S. Armed Forces, covers 342 square miles throughout central Texas and is home to more than 41,000 soldiers and nearly 400,000 family members and retirees.
Fort Hood relies on quality equipment that will meet the demands and unique requirements of military bases and their residents. When it recognized the need for new laundry equipment for residents, it turned to Speed Queen to provide them with commercial-grade products. The gear is constructed to military standards — rugged, and built to last.
The facility currently has more than 1,600 Speed Queen washers on the military installation that service 6,728 family quarters and 99 barracks with 10,868 rooms. Mike Tucker is a project manager who has been repairing, maintaining, servicing and installing washing machines at Fort Hood for 30 years.
“We have had the opportunity to use washers from many different manufacturers,” Tucker says. “ The best testament to the reliability of the washer is the small number of service calls we receive on the machines.”
In 2013, Fort Hood installed the manufacturer’s top- and front-load washers, dryers and stack dryers. The models have practical features designed to make laundry simple and productive.
The company’s top load washers are ENERGY STAR-certified and provide water savings and reduced energy costs. Additionally, the washers are designed to save money on operating expenses. Each product is built to withstand harsh commercial environments and is backed by the service and support.
“The stainless steel tub is extremely durable and the front access panel makes servicing the washer easier, which shortens service call times,” Tucker adds. “The ease of operation for the user has always been an important feature on a military installation, due to some soldiers who have never used a washing machine.”
