With 2017 underway, government budgets are on an upswing. Total government purchases rose by 2.2 percent in 2016 over 2015. Total purchases will reach $3.37 trillion in 2017, up from $3.28 trillion in 2016, predicts IHS Global Insight in a November 2016 outlook report. American City & County’s poll that asks where 2017 public sector budget dollars should be spent shows 87 percent of poll respondents favor spending the money on infrastructure.
