SMS messaging business offers free services for government organizations during outbreak

EZ Texting has announced it will be providing municipalities, government organizations, and schools with free access to its platform, enabling these groups to send COVID-19-related SMS updates to their communities at no cost.

The free use of the emergency alert texting service is available to organizations with either a “.gov” or “.edu” domain. Currently, qualifying signups will receive 100K outgoing messages, one keyword, and the use of a common-use short code. Access to the text services will remain free until further notice, and the messages will not expire for six months from the date of activation.

In addition to offering free access to its SMS software, EZ Texting has developed a guide to COVID-19 communications. Recommendations highlighted in the guide include:

• Frequent communications to all regarding ongoing COVID-19 planning.
• Share updates and real-time information with the broader community, relying on multiple communication methods to keep folks informed.
• Ensure proper website messaging, including blog posts when appropriate.
• Post your latest COVID-19 operating plan across all social media accounts.
• Encourage community members to opt into text alerts for real-time information about what is being done to keep the community as safe and healthy as possible.
• Provide opted-in community members with timely text message updates and action plans.
