10 best cities for freelancers
The COVID pandemic changed how and where people work. Office workers started working from home, and companies realized they could let them stay at home and still be productive and successful. Some people quit company work all together and branched out on their own as freelancers, where they could decide their own schedule, location, style and workload. According to data, in 2020 there were 59 million freelancers in the United States, compared to 53 million in 2014.
ToolTester recently looked at American cities to see which offered the best options for freelancers, from working space to Wi-Fi costs and more. Fourteen metrics were used to create a ranking out of 100 points, including income taxes, number and average cost of coworking spaces (WeWork and Regus), distance to transportation, and Wi-Fi speeds and costs. New York City has the most coworking spaces with 270, while San Diego has the most expensive Wi-Fi, at an average of $119.70 per month.
