Van Gives Officers High-Tech Surveillance
Law enforcement officers in Nevada have a new $224,000 custom-built mobile command center at their disposal. A dozen detectives with the State Tactical Assessment Response Team will use the command center, which can be taken anywhere in the state.
The command center will be equipped with a microwave video camera that will enable the detectives to record video images from a distance of up to five miles.
The command center, which was built on a Freightliner chassis, is equipped with biohazard suits, a self-contained breathing system, cellular and satellite telephones, a small conference center, and two-way radios. The detectives will undergo training to use the command center.
The vehicle can be used in various ways, including responding to a biological or chemical emergency, investigating a methamphetamine lab, or serving as a command post for events.
