New Scientist magazine reports that several companies have come up with suggestions, including the Piezer, an “electric bullet” that can be fired from a 12-gauge shotgun and has a range of 150 feet.
Another possible alternative is the “dazzler,” which employs a series of bright lights to disorient individuals.
The U.S. military is developing other nonlethal weapons, such as a millimeter wave device that produces a painful heat sensation.
