Texas County Automates Court Management
Texas County Automates Court Management
Travis County, TX, has recently completed installation of an automated court management solution. The $4 million system, from Tiburon, a unit of Annapolis, MD-based CompuDyne Corp., is comprised of a comprehensive court manager and interagency database, which serves the county’s public safety and justice communities.
Called FACTS, the program replaces the county’s legacy system and automates virtually all court, administrative, and financial activities for the county’s Criminal District Courts and Clerks Office.
“The collaboration between Tiburon and Travis County to advance the use of technology can serve as a national example for creating efficiency in local government and the complex justice system,” says Alicia Perez, Travis County Executive Manager for Administrative Operations.
The county’s new Interagency Database (IDB) integrates existing county systems and enables county public safety and justice administrators to collect data and gain online access to information commonly shared among agencies.
Names, aliases, charges, and arrest records are stored in a common data warehouse and are available to any authorized user—from law enforcement personnel and district attorneys, to judges and jail administrators. The IDB eliminates redundant data entry, saves time, increases information accuracy, and promotes standardized data collection.
This installation is the first phase of court automation for Travis County. Subsequent phases will upgrade the Civil District Courts and Clerks Office, Offices of the Justice of Peace Courts, Probate Court, Drug Court, County Courts at Law, and the Office of the County Clerk.
