County Launches Spanish Web Site
County Launches Spanish Web Site
In an innovative step to meet the growing needs of its Hispanic population, the government of Orange County, FL, announced the launch of a complete Spanish-language version of its award-winning Web site. The first such site among Floridas largest counties, this version of the Web site can be accessed by clicking on the Disponible En Espaol (Available in Spanish) tab on the Countys homepage, http://www.OrangeCountyFL.net .
Orange County is nationally recognized as a leader in providing online governmental resources, and its Web site has received several prestigious awards, including a 2004 Best of the Web award from the Center for Digital Government. The site offers current and continuously updated information on government operations, public safety issues, printable forms and access to several online services. With the current launch, the entire Orange County Web site is now fully accessible to its Spanish-speaking residents and visitors.
Hispanics represent over 22% of Orange Countys population, says Orange County Mayor Richard T. Crotty. Its vitally important that we provide full access to all information and services available on our Web site.
Orange Countys research confirmed that traditional translation solutions are ill-suited for Web sites. Cumbersome, risky, and expensive when applied to the Web, these traditional solutions are difficult to deploy and maintain. Fortunately, we found an innovative solution that simplifies deployment, ensures superior translation quality, and makes timely updates to the site, Mayor Crotty adds. No additional IT resources were required by us. Best of all, the price was very affordable.
Orange County uses MotionPoint Corporation’s proprietary TransMotion technology to deploy its Spanish Web site. Going forward, Orange County will maintain its English-language Web site exactly has it has done in the past. MotionPoint will maintain the Spanish-language version of the site.
Were pleased to assist Orange County in providing this service to its Hispanic residents, said Will Fleming, CEO of MotionPoint. Were equally pleased that the county now offers a fully-translated site to the thousands of Spanish-speaking residents and visitors who visit its website every day.
