The State of Florida has signed a seven-year, $280 million contract with Convergys Corp., a firm that specializes in integrated billing, as well as employee and customer care services.
The company will support the state’s 189,000 employees and elected officials with services such as human resources, benefits and payroll administration, recruiting, and training.
“Working with Convergys enables us to provide the highest quality human resources services possible to the men and women who dedicate their careers to public service,” says Governor Jeb Bush.
The project will consolidate similar personnel-related functions across state agencies, resulting in improved service delivery and avoiding future costs of up to $173 million over the life of the contract.
The Louisiana Department of Social Services (DSS) has selected Northrop Grumman Corp. to provide a broad range of information technology services to approximately 250 offices throughout the state.
The company’s Information Technology (IT) sector will provide the Louisiana DSS with PC desktop, server, application, and network support services under a contract that has a potential value of $8.1 million over three years.
The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced the award of a task order to provide enterprise-wide information technology (IT) and telecommunications support services for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Technology, Operations, and Planning.
GSA’s Federal Systems Integration and Management Center (FEDSIM), a program of the Federal Technology Service (FTS), awarded the task order to Dyncorp Systems and Solutions LLC through GSA’s Millennia contract. Estimated at $867 million, the award is for seven years, if all options are exercised.
The Town of Edenton, NC, has selected Environ-mental Network International, Inc. (ENI), to provide e-procurement software for managing procurement activities. The software provides buyers with a user-friendly interface and the automated tools to generate project specifications, requisitions, and requests (including public and sealed bids), as well as approve quotations and centrally manage procurement activities by collaborating supply chains online.
“Our employees and our suppliers will find that they have all the relevant tools and information at their fingertips to better communicate and collaborate to streamline the activity of buying and selling products and services,” says Anne-Marie Knighton, manager for the Town of Edenton.
The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) announced that it has taken another step towards its goal of issuing smart cards to all active-duty civilians and military personnel by year-end 2003. Schlumberger has been selected as a middleware provider of DeXa.Badge information security for the DoD’s Common Access Card (CAC) program. Middleware is the software that facilitates communications (e.g. reading, writing, and transferring digital certificates) between cards and other computer devices. Now, the DoD can extend CAC development to non-Windows users.
Viisage Technology, Inc., supplier of facial recognition biometrics and secure identification systems, has received funding from the DoD, Technical Support Working Group (TSWG) to continue development of Viisage face recognition tools to be used by government agencies. TSWG is chartered with advancing the development of technologies that could play critical roles in combating terrorism.
The e-Learning, e-Books, and Search&Select knowledge support delivery technology, by NETg, has been chosen to bring the latest IT, desktop application, and business and professional development skills to more than 1.8 million federal employees through the Gov On-line Learning Center (www.golearn.gov). The Gov On-line Learning Center, launched last July, creates a center of e-learning courses and resources that expands access to core training materials across the federal government and supports President Bush’s 21st Century Workforce executive order calling for initiatives that streamline workplace education and retraining.
Subjects include everything from desktop word processing and database applications to time management techniques and leadership training. Knowledge support technology enables federal employees to type in a question and immediately receive a short training session to satisfy their specific information or skill need.
Cecil County, MD, has signed a contract with First Vehicle Services of Cincinnati, OH, for maintenance of its 340-unit fleet. The contract runs for three years and is followed by two additional two-year option periods.
Likewise, the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department (DCMPD) has chosen First Vehicle Services to maintain its 1,600-vehicle fleet. The initial contract runs for one year, with four additional one-year option periods following.
