Korean Air Stun Guns Approved
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced that it has given Korean Air Lines approval to arm its crew members with non-lethal stun guns on flights in and out of the United States. The Taser stun guns will be used aboard 50 daily flights to the United States, according to officials with Korean Air. “Specially trained personnel in the aircraft” will be armed with the Tasers, according to a Korean Air spokeswoman. The spokeswoman would not divulge whether pilots, flight attendants, or both would be armed with the Tasers. The TSA says that only a few other airlines have seemed interested in equipping their crew members with stun guns, but that any airline that submits an application for the devices will be considered. Several major U.S. carriers have said they are not interested in equipping their crews with stun guns. The devices may have limited use aboard commercial airplanes now that cockpit doors have been strengthened and pilots are allowed to use firearms, security experts say.
