Federal IT outsourcing is expected to be one of the fastest growing federal IT market segments over the next five years, with a forecasted annual growth rate of 8.3 percent, according to a report released by INPUT, a provider of government market intelligence. U.S. federal government spending on IT outsourcing will grow from $11.7 billion in FY04 to $17.4 billion in FY 2009.
The significant percentage of federal IT personnel reaching retirement age leaves the federal government with little choice but to pursue outsourcing as a means to address a workforce shortage. It is projected that a full third of the current workforces program management will be lost to retirement by 2006.
