E-Citations Going Statewide In Alabama
The state of Alabama has developed a new software system that will allow state troopers or police officers to easily access information for completing moving violation citations, producing an electronic ticket that is immediately available for verification in the state’s database.
The system works by swiping an offender’s driver’s license through a barcode reader, calling up information about the driver’s previous violations and all driver and vehicle data, which can be automatically filled in to the electronic citation.
The immediacy of the updates to the database allows officers to note if two violations occur very close together, and adjust the penalty for the violation accordingly. The software will be available to all Alabama jurisdictions.
