$37 Million Released For Firefighter Grants
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the United States Fire Administration (USFA) have released the eighth round of Fiscal Year 2002 Assistance to Firefighter Grant Awards, for 597 fire departments. The monetary investment announced in this round exceeds $37 million.
“These 597 fire departments join the list of over 2700 fire department award recipients announced in the previous seven rounds. Over $210 million have now been committed to support the safety and basic services provided by firefighters, throughout the United States. In support of this nation’s firefighters, we must commit ourselves to use this investment to further reduce the loss of life and property due to fire,” said USFA Administrator R. David Paulison.
The funds will be used to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations, fire fighter health and safety programs, new fire apparatus, EMS programs, and Fire Prevention and Safety Programs.
FEMA and the USFA expect to announce a total of at least 5500 grants before the end of the calendar year. The total of all awards, when completed, will represent a $360M investment to enhance fire and EMS service delivery nationwide. The Assistance for Firefighters Grant Program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments throughout the United States. The USFA is a part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
