“After collecting and analyzing raw market data for the month of April, we determined that the average sale prices for heavy equipment fell slightly compared to March,” says Rebecca Fowler, who is Associate Analyst for Green Guide, Construction Equipment at EquipmentWatch.
Fowler explained: “While falling prices can be tied to a number of factors, price decreases often indicate a large supply of used equipment on the market, and that was the case last month. In April, overall sales volume rose 11% month over month, creating more favorable conditions for buyers in most states.”
Fowler says the latest month’s data shows that the supply of Tractor-Loader-Backhoes remained steady, which prevented the drop in price seen for other equipment types. “Increased demand stemming from the seasonality of construction work and improving weather conditions contributed to a 2.7% increase in average resale prices,” she says.
Fowler told GPN that the average age of equipment on the market also impacts prices. “Compared to March, the average age of Tractor-Loader-Backhoes sold in the private market dropped nearly 10%, meaning that buyers are paying a premium to obtain newer equipment. Again, this points to stronger demand for this type of equipment, bolstered by growing confidence in the construction industry."
