Newest equipment valuation trend data now available
The new EquipmentWatch INDEX has been issued, and it includes a quick look at price, volume and age trends observed during May 2014.
The monthly INDEX is an information tool that helps fleet professionals track critical heavy equipment benchmarks. With the INDEX, fleet professionals can make knowledgeable heavy equipment decisions around price, market share and equipment age metrics.

The latest INDEX shows the following highlights that EquipmentWatch researchers observed over the past month:
• Nationwide prices decreased 0.1 percent
• Prices fell in every region but the Southwest—where they increased 6.8 percent compared to April
• Average equipment age dropped by 5 months in both resale and auction markets
The latest monthly INDEX shows the following marketplace activity over the past 30 days: A total of 4,762 equipment units changed hands at auction (public), while a total of 265,288 equipment units were transacted in the resale (private) marketplace. The latest INDEX report also provides age benchmarks for various kinds of equipment by category and manufacturer.
Ten equipment categories and 15 manufacturers are covered in the age benchmark portion of the latest INDEX report. The average age of equipment sold in the resale marketplace dropped in the latest month for all 10 categories. The average age of equipment sold in the auction marketplace dropped in the latest month for eight manufacturers.
“The industry has recovered from the difficult winter conditions that delayed many Q1 projects,” says Patrick Dogan, who is the Manager, Analytics at EquipmentWatch.
More equipment buys are on the horizon, Dogan says. “With economic conditions improving, budgets stabilizing, and Tier IV concerns lessening, equipment owners are starting to look to purchase new equipment or used equipment that has low operating hours.”
