NIGP Forum 2014 headed to Philly in August (with related video)
More than 800 public procurement professionals in the United States and Canada will meet in Philadelphia Aug. 23-27 for NIGP Forum 2014. It is the largest North American conference exclusively for public procurement. The program will draw purchasing officials from federal, provincial, state and local government agencies. NIGP: The Institute for Public Procurement is the organizer of the 2014 Forum. Go here for details on the 2014 program.
The Forum is NIGP’s main educational event. It features over 60 workshops led by subject matter experts, plenty of networking activities as well as a lineup of thought-provoking speakers. The Forum’s products expo on August 25 and August 25 provides an opportunity for one-on-one interaction and networking with suppliers, as well as a hands-on experience with the latest products and services available to government agencies.
The Forum’s plenary session speaker will be former Governor Ed Rendell of Pennsylvania. The topic is: “Can America Stay on Top? The Challenge to American Competitiveness.” The plenary session presentation takes place on Monday, August 25 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Rendell served two terms as governor of Pennsylvania (2003-2011). During this time he successfully cut wasteful spending and improved efficiency leading to savings of over $1 billion. In addition, while serving as mayor of Philadelphia (1992-2000), Rendell eliminated a major deficit, balanced the city`s budget, and generated five consecutive budget surpluses. Philadelphia`s renaissance, which the New York Times called “the most stunning turnaround in recent urban history,” is largely attributed to his determination, inspiration, and energy.
After 34 years of public service, former Governor Rendell has become a champion for progress in the area of alternative energy, and now serves as a consultant or board member for several green and alternative energy firms, including Own Energy, Element Partners and Ocean Thermal Energy. He has also remained involved in the campaign for government efficiency and strategic cost cutting through his work with entities such as Government Sourcing Solutions, Public Financial Management and Greenhill Advisors. The former governor continues to encourage investment in our nation’s crumbling infrastructure. He continues to serve as co-chair of the Building America`s Future organization.
Motivational speaker Connie Podesta is the closing presenter at the 2014 NIGP Forum. Her topic is “Absolute Fearless Success.” Podesta’s speech is on Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m. She is a game-changing, sales-generating, idea innovator. She offers a tell-it-like-it-is delivery style. Podesta is an expert in helping people close the gap between where they are now and where they want and need to be to succeed and achieve outstanding results—at home and at work.
