New executive director named at NASPO
The Lexington, Ky.-based National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) has named DeLaine Bender as the association’s new executive director. In that position, Bender will lead a team of eight staff including policy analysts and coordinators in education, research, marketing, and special projects. NASPO is an association that represents the directors of the state central procurement offices.
Bender comes to NASPO with more than 20 years of experience in association, event and communications management. She has held executive positions with Quest International Users Group, the National Christmas Tree Association, the National Association of Chief Information Officers, and the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission. Bender is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), which is held by fewer than five percent of all association professionals. The CAE designation is a professional credential in the association industry.
Bender has been supporting NASPO through a leadership transition since December 2013. She has been working with the NASPO board to develop a revised strategic plan that will elevate the association and enable NASPO to achieve continued growth. Bender has instituted policies and procedures at NASPO to improve efficiencies and increase productivity.
“The NASPO Board is excited about this new chapter in NASPO’s history,” said NASPO President Dean Stotler. “DeLaine provides the necessary leadership to move NASPO forward in realizing our strategic objectives and emphasizing our role in advancing public procurement.”
