Expert: Government workers are requesting standing desks (with related video)

More than half of the voters who took part in GPN’s recent standing desk poll agree with the statement that standing desks boost worker productivity. A total of 165 votes (53 percent of all 314 participants) were cast in favor of that statement. Just 23 percent of the participants (72 votes), however, currently work at a standing desk.

The percentage of workers who have a standing desk should grow in the future, believes Steve Feldman, director of sales for BDI. The firm designs and manufactures high-performance furniture as well as media furniture and office and modular shelving systems. The company is based in Chantilly, Va.

“For employees who spend a lot of their day seated at the computer — such as many government workers — there has been a growing demand for more ergonomic options that support workplace functionality and comfort,” Feldman tells GPN.

He says that desks that offer a standing option are becoming more necessary for these workers and their work environments. “Standing desks offer employees better options for posture, support physical activity during the workday, and increase blood flow and circulation, which leads to more mental alertness and productivity,” adds Feldman.

BDI has announced the newest addition to its Sequel Office Collection, the Sequel Lift Desk. It is a freestanding, height-adjustable desk. The product will be available nationwide in June.

•    A digital keypad which can be installed on the left or right of the desk for the user’s convenience, and
•    A cable management system to keep wiring organized and out of sight.

The product pairs with other pieces in the Sequel Office Collection, which includes mobile files and storage credenzas. The components can be configured in a variety of ways. The collection is available in four finishes: Natural Stained Cherry, Espresso Stained Oak, Chocolate Stained Walnut and Natural Walnut.
